Pluto is no longer officially a planet under the definintion of "planet" adopted by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). See the full story here.
Initially on Aug. 16 there was proposed a broader definition of the word "planet" which would have raised three more satellites to the status of planet (including Pluto's moon, Charon), but after much debate the new proposal was adopted.
Too bad my Science News magazine came yesterday with an article about the original proposal and arrived at my home about 3 hours after I heard about the final decision...
